Symbolism Deep Dive
Double Thunder. Thunder upon thunder — shock compounded, the sudden event that shatters complacency. Zhen is the first-born son among the trigrams, the eldest, the one who inherits. The hexagram captures the full arc of shock: first, terror (‘oh, oh!’), then release (‘ha, ha!’), then the aftermath (the superior man ‘sets his life in order and examines himself’).
